Suggestions for Proper Maintenance
|
|
1. Vehicular traffic should be prohibited, due to the possibility of leaking gas and oil, ground in dirt and stones, twisting of tires especially on hot days.
2. Equipment used on infield should cross the track in one location. Surface should be protected with something such as indoor-outdoor carpet or a crossover tarp. Basically, this precaution is to keep the surface clean. Whichever covering is used, it should not be left on the track all the time. The covering should be rolled up or removed when not needed to allow the surface to breath and also to allow moisture which can accumulate between surface and covering to dry.

3. Areas that are used to cross the track continually should be protected (this includes such as area utilized by football players wearing cleats) so mud, dirt and grass clippings will not be tracked onto the surface.
4. Sprinkler heads should be adjusted so they don't continually water the track. Elements in the water may stain the track surface, and may also speed up the natural weathering of the surface.
5. The track should be kept edged to keep grass from growing into the asphalt. A vegetation killer, such as "Triox" by Ortho, should be used to kill vegetation six inches to one foot on both inside and outside edges of track. This will also promote and maintain proper drainage.
6. Lawn mowers should not make sharp turns on track and grass clippings should be discharged away from track surface.
7. Athletic equipment (such as hurdles) should not be left on surface for extended periods, especially during hot weather.
8. Short spikes, such as the 1/8" pyramid spike, may be used on the surface. Spikes should not penetrate the surface. Penetration would lead to excessive wear and actually slow a runner down.
9. Other suggestions to prolong maintenance: - practice as much as possible in flats, - joggers should use outside lanes, - alternate lane usage whenever possible so that all the wear will not be on inside lanes, - areas used by cheerleaders should be protected, - no rollerblades, bicycles or skateboards recommended.
10. The normal maintenance cycle on your track surface will depend on the thickness of the surface (number of applications), weather conditions, amount of use and the way the surface is taken care of. With proper care, you should get 5-7 years before additional applications of rubber and latex will be required.
11. If something should happen and the surface is damaged, in most cases it can easily be repaired. If any questions arise, contact Current Surfaces, Inc. at your convenience.
